Real Life: The Disney Trip

It’s time for another post in the Real Life series hosted by Be Merry, Kate and myself.
I hope you enjoy laughing along with us as we get into the messier side of life.

I was tempted to do a Disney post that was just pretty pictures of us running and Damian smiling and Disney looking magical. However…….. It’s Thursday and time for a Real Life post and I thought “What better to write about than how this trip actually went down!?”

Oh Disney, you were supposed to be magical… But after leaving us to think our carseat had been lost at the airport for days, running a half and full marathon with an upper respiratory infection in 80 degrees weather, the bff dropping out of the full because you filled her feet with blister while walking around your pristine parks, and then watching my mom get sent to the ER in an ambulance to get 9 stitches in her head… I must say… magical you were not.

Ok that’s not completely true, there were plenty of magical moments when I wasn’t in bed with a fever. I think for the most part, everyone enjoyed themselves. I actually started feeling much better the day after the marathon and got to enjoy our last day in the parks!

See there’s no way we could look this cute if I were still dying! Yay feeling alive!

But this was definitely not the Disney trip of non-stop fun and excellent running any of us had planned.

I’ll probably do a marathon recap post later to go more in-depth about how that race went. But I’ll say now that I was definitely disappointed. I know that I was sick, and honestly probably shouldn’t have been running in the first place, but I had trained and felt up to the challenge. And then race day came and all I wanted to do was finish alive.

I guess it just goes to show that no matter how much you plan a trip or train for a race, you can’t predict how things will play out in the end. I think we did a good job staying positive and having fun despite some bumps along the way though! So Disney… I guess we’ll go back to you… We just might need some space for a little bit ;-)

  1. Ugh we had the worst vacation ever!! I spent $3,000 too see my husband graduate from basic training and every single thing went wrong. I was so sick I lost my voice my mil got food poisening my 5 week old had to have emergency surgery we got snowed in…in Texas!! My other mil got lost and missed the whole thing. now we are planning our first Disney trip and am terrified!! so hoping this one goes better!

    • Oh gosh! That sounds like one crazy trip. I hope the little one was ok! Good luck with Disney and I wish you a much happier trip!!

      • Thanks :) Where did you stay at Disney? We were thinking the Art of Animation over a deluxe/moderate. I know it’s not as close to the park but looks so much more kid friendly.

      • We have stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside, the Jambo House at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and most recently the Old Key West resort (we’ve gone in the off season and/ or gotten really good deals– not normally big spenders haha) I’ve loved them all and they’ve all been pretty kid friendly but I know the Art of Animation has a ton of character decorations and whatnot that I’m sure kids will love. All the hotels have a nice playground and pool. I think that as long as you stay on Disney property you’ll be fine. Each hotel has a bus system that will take you to and from the parks along to downtown Disney. I hope y’all have fun and let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!
